Description

Badger IFV
Designed for the dual role of providing fire support to friendly main battle tanks and safely transporting troops in a high-threat environments. The Badger is resistance against IEDs, small mines and offers high ballistic protection for its inhabitants while not sacrificing mobility. The modular design and light weight allows the vehicle to be air dropped but preferably flown to a LZ before action. The vehicle can have damaged plates and sections removed in several minutes or hours. The hull is a mix of Carbon fiber Kevlar and Laminated stainless steal armor panels attached to an aluminum hull. These IFVs first entered service before WW3 the FSA wanted a highly mobile platform for infantry to be transported and protected. The result was a return to simple designs, and learning from Doosan. First generation Badgers IFVs used 30mm Bushmaster44 Mk2 auto cannons. Until the ECF adopted the platform in the late 21st century and ungraded the gun to a 40mm Gauss gun. Entered service in 2036 and served until 2135 in some military units.

Armed with a 40mm Gauss cannon the main gun is more powerful than more conventional guns. The active defense screen is able to shoot down or deflect many ATGMs. Amphibious capabilities are enhanced through the use of a rapid CO2 inflation pontoon system. The Badger 20 is a 20 ton weapons platform named for its weight, and is able to be given auto-cannons as small as 30mm or 90mm anti-armor cannons. When needed the Badger can be given more armor, including ERA, and AMAP-ADS expanding armor. When fully armored the Badger will weigh in at 25 too 40 tons fully loaded. During the Fedcom war over eager troops and officers would use IFV assaults early with mixed results exposing some of the Communist Union's production advantages.

Badger 90

The Badger 90 is the go to light tank. The Badger tank is fitted with a computerized fire control system and stabilized day/night sights. Vehicle's integrated battlefield management system ensures situational awareness. Add on passive armor package can be fitted. It is speculated that the front arc with add-on armor protects against 30-mm armor-piercing discarding sabot rounds. All-round protection is against 14.5-mm armor-piercing projectiles. Furthermore explosive reactive armor can be fitted for even higher level of protection. Interior is lined with a spall liner and troop compartment is used as a quick reload compartment. Badger 90 light tank is further enhanced by the tank's defensive suite, including point defense-laser, and missile approach warning systems. The main gun is a 90mm high velocity weapon meant to hit enemy flanks and rear positions although many 4th generation tanks can be destroyed in three or four shots head on. In the year 2089 its 90mm gun was updated from ETC to LGG allowing it to hit like a 120mm cannon. It was retired from service in 2101.

Badger APC

With the Turret assembly removed and ammunition of the larger 30mm cannon rounds enough space was freed up to allow the Badger to carry an additional 2 fully loaded combat troops.

Badger SPAAG

The close air support threat from Chinese Expeditionary Forces was very impressive from strike fighters, helicopter gunships and even recon helicopters resulted in a hurried design using the readily available 650 frequency agile surveillance and tracking X/J-band radar. The turret for the 40mm guns and medium range 4x IR SAM launchers use a design similar to the K-30 Biho. This allowed for multinational units in Korea and Japan to share parts with local vehicles. This is the longest serving unit of badgers as the US Army used it from 2036 until 2137. It is second to the m1911 for longest serving military equipment. According to US Lieutenant General Zachery Stone of the US Army Airborne "It works well enough against even modern threats using anything else is a waste of time and money."

Badger Command Center

A mobile command center able to survive and function in a nuclear war zone. Thankfully during WW3 it never came to that. It used a large number of drones to coordinate with troops, support assets and orbital drops.
Crew 2 + 5 operating officers.

I'd like to thank JB1992 for his laser parts.

A 101-year service time is quite an impressive achievement.
